Are porcelain veneers right for you? Well that depends. Do you want a straighter smile? A whiter smile? Or how about a permanent perfect smile that will boost your confidence and visual appeal? Many studies have shown the benefits of straight teeth and what it can do to perception—especially with how others view you. A straighter, whiter smile can do amazing things for a person’s life. If any of this appeals to you, porcelain veneers may be right for you. Today’s porcelain veneers are resilient, ultra-thin ceramic shells that are custom-made to fit your mouth and face with advanced computer imaging. Increasing in popularity, more and more people are seeking to enhance their smiles with porcelain veneers. Dr. Niles is specialized in dental veneer procedures and can fit you for a newer, more radiant smile you won’t want to hide. But what exactly are veneers? Let us show you what porcelain veneers are and their benefits, and see if they are right for you.

Cosmetic Dentistry: Porcelain Veneers

Dental veneers fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry, meaning it is a procedure to enhance your overall appearance rather than to correct problems such as gum disease or tooth decay. 3/5 of cosmetic dentistry patients are women, while the remaining 40% are men, but each year more and more men are opting for cosmetic dentistry treatments to enhance their aesthetic appeal—especially in their professional life. According to a survey by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, 97% of dental veneer recipients received their treatment to enhance appearance. And it’s no wonder why! Studies have shown that straighter, more beautiful teeth can boost confidence immensely. In studies done by Invisalign, and reports made by big names such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and NBC, straighter, whiter teeth made a person seem more attractive, more successful and even more trustworthy than those with crooked or stained teeth. Those with better smiles even have a better chance at landing jobs than those who don’t, so your oral health and appearance really make a difference when it comes to your success! That is why dental veneers have become so popular in recent years.

How Dental Veneers Work

Veneers work to change the outside appearance of the teeth. It is a cosmetic dental procedure to enhance your natural teeth to a level of perfectly aligned, straight and white teeth. Whereas crowns will cover an entire tooth, a dental veneer is simply a shell (usually made out of porcelain) that covers the front part of your tooth. In your first meeting with Dr. Niles, your teeth will be prepared for dental veneers. We will take impressions of your teeth so that we have an accurate measurement of each individual tooth. We will also discuss the vision you have for your teeth to determine the exact appearance of your veneers via digital imaging. Afterwards, your impressions will be sent to a special lab where each individual porcelain veneer shell will be made.

In your first visit, we will also prepare the teeth by removing a thin layer of tooth enamel at the front of your visible teeth. The layer will be very thin, but must be removed so that the permanent teeth do not stick out abnormally and so that the veneer can lie flesh with the natural tooth, creating a natural appearance. The teeth are given temporary shell coverings until your permanent veneers arrive at the office in 2-3 weeks. We will then meet with you and bond the permanent veneers to the teeth with cement bonding. We have a special light to harden and seal your veneers so that you can get back to your normal routine (including eating and drinking) as soon as you leave our office).

The Amazing Benefits of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers can change even the worst of smiles into something beautiful and dazzling. Didn’t receive orthodontic care when you were younger? You may not have to. Dental veneers are placed over the teeth and structured to fit your mouth and correct visible abnormalities. They can fill gaps in teeth that are present, hide crooked teeth and even hide misaligned teeth. Have coffee stains or discoloration of the teeth from age or wear and tear? Dental veneers cover all of that discoloration and actually are designed to stay beautiful and white over time. Veneers are also recommended by Dr. Niles for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure. The best part? They stay good for up to 20 years with great oral hygiene practices and after that, we can do touchups here and there. You can achieve your new smile in just about 2 office visits, which means the procedure doesn’t take up a lot of your time.

Achieving a beautiful, straight white smile doesn’t have to be a lengthy process. And with someone experienced, it can be quite a life-changing procedure that you will thoroughly enjoy. Dr. Niles and her team loves to change the lives of each patient through enhancing smiles.
